5 Nollywood Stars You Didn’t Know Are Cameroonian

Nollywood is filled with some of the most talented actors and actresses. Because Nollywood is the Nigerian movie and television industry, it is easy to assume that everybody within the industry is 100% Nigerian. However, that is in fact not the case.

 

Today, we’ll be counting down 5 Nollywood celebrities you may not know are actually also Cameroonian. Are you ready to find out who they are? Then let’s go!

1. Francis Duru

Nollywood actor Francis Duru is an icon in the movie and television industry. Francis has been working in the industry since 1989 when he made his acting debut in a movie called Missing Mark directed by the now late Ndubuisi Oko. Even though this was his first movie, it was not his breakout role. That happened for Francis in 1994 when he starred in the action comedy movie Rattle Snake produced by Amaka Igwe where acted as the character of Ahanna. Since then Francis has gone on to star in a slew of Nollywood blockbusters and is one of the most revered actors in the industry.

 

Francis Duru was actually born in Cameroon in 1969 to Nigerian parents making him Cameroonian by birth.

2. Okawa Shaznay

Another face that you might instantly recognize if you’re an avid consumer of Nigerian movies or television is that of Okawa Shaznay. The beautiful actress broke into Nollywood when she starred in the hit movie Iyore alongside Rita Dominic. Since then, she has gone on to star in a number of productions including playing the lead character Delilah on the hit television show, Delilah: The Mysterious Case of Delilah Ambrose.

 

Okawa Shaznay was born in Cameroon and is Cameroonian also by birth.

3. Katherine Obiang

Katherine Obiang is a popular television presenter and actress who jumpstarted her career working as a television presenter for Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) on AM Express and also with Nigeria Info 99.3fm. After that, Katherine went on to pursue acting and has starred in such movies as The Women alongside Kate Henshaw and Omoni Oboli, Journey to Self, and the hit series, Lekki Wives.

 

Katherine is a Cameroonian-Nigerian woman whose father is Cameroonian and whose mother is Nigerian.

4. Epule Jeffrey

Epule Jeffrey Ewusi is an actor that has starred in such movies as Breach of Trust, Red Pink Poison, Decoded, and Royal Destination featuring Tonto Dikeh and Emeka Ike.

 

Epule Jeffrey Ewusi was born in Buea South west Region of Cameroon making him a Cameroonian man by birth.

5. Empress Njamah

Nollywood actress Empress Njamah is an actress that has been around for so many years now. Empress has starred in such blockbuster movies as Last Girl Standing, Missing Angel, She Devil, June, Wife Material, and a slew of other movies.

 

Empress is also born to parents of differing nationalities – her father is a Nigerian man while her mother is Cameroonian making her Cameroonian from her mother’s side.
